Germany, Egypt Hold Talks on Trade, Investment

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

On Thursday, German Chancellor, Ms Angela Merkel, held discussions with her Egyptian counterpart, Mr Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi bordering on ways to improve trade between the two countries.

However, the major reason Ms Merkel flew to Egypt is to seek support of the North African nation and its neighbour, Tunisia, in putting tougher security measures in place to control migration of Africans through the Mediterranean Sea.

The German leader has expressed her country’s readiness to provide equipment to the two nations to tackle human traffickers who use the routes to cross to Europe.

Ms Merkel believes Tunisia and Egypt can help solve the migrant crisis if they tighten their borders.

During her visit, before leaving for Tunisia on Friday, the German Chancellor will have a meeting with businessmen in Cairo.

She hopes Egypt will provide better business environment to investors especially in the area of protecting their investments.
