The Lagos State Inland Service (LIRS) has announced that from next month, all previously used bill references would be discontinued as part of efforts to digitalise its operations and make the payment of taxes seamless.
In a statement signed on Sunday by the Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS, Ms Monsurat Amasa, it was stated that from Monday, August 1, 2022, only the Enterprise Tax Solutions (eTax) generated bill references will be acceptable for tax payments.
The agency disclosed that using the eTax system to generate a bill reference is easy to learn and can be done successfully by visiting https://etax.lirs.net; inputting the Payer ID and password to log in; selecting revenue type, and uploading the schedule (For PAYE & Withholding Taxes); and then generating a bill reference; before making a payment on any of the multiple channels available using the generated bill reference.
In the statement, the executive chairman of LIRS, Mr Ayodele Subair, reiterated that by the cut-off date of August 1, 2022, eTax would become the only authorized channel to generate bill references for tax payments and other tax-related transactions in Lagos State.
Business Post recalls that in October 2019, the LIRS introduced the eTax platform to engender seamless tax operations and reduce compliance costs to taxpayers.
The scheme was built as a one-stop shop for all tax transactions and since its launch, eTax has improved the effectiveness of tax administration in Lagos State, according to the tax collecting organisation.
