One person has been feared dead after a peaceful rally by some members of the Yoruba Nation group turned fatal during a clash with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in the Ojota area of Lagos State on Monday morning.
The demonstrators had planned a mega rally today for a breakaway from Nigeria, but security operatives disrupted their protest, and in the process, a life was lost.
According to visuals from the scene of the unfortunate incident, the police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, but resistance from the group resulted in the casualty.
This has created unrest in the area as some motorists were seen abandoning their vehicles for safety, with residents and passers-by also taking cover.
A corpse was seen lying on the road, while a few mourners accused the police of pulling the trigger that claimed the life of the young man.
This is not the first time the police and the Yoruba Nation organisation are clashing at Ojota Lagos.
In 2021, a similar incident occurred, and it claimed the life of a 14-year-old female hawker identified as Jumoke Oyeleke at Ojota.
Business Post gathered that at the time of filing this report, normalcy had been restored to the area, with some policemen seen patrolling the vicinity.
