DStv and GOtv

The new price adjustment announced by MultiChoice Nigeria on its DStv and GOtv packages is taking effect from Monday, November 6, 2023.

In a message to its customers last week, the pay-tv platform said it would increase subscriptions for its bouquets, blaming the cost of business operations in the country for this.

Nigeria has in recent times witnessed a squeeze in the supply of foreign exchange (FX) due to low forex earnings from crude oil sales and exports.

The FX liquidity crisis has put pressure on the Naira, weakening its value in the currency market, and resulting in an increase in the prices of goods and services.

One of the companies affected by this is MultiChoice, which has said if residents of Nigeria intend to continue to watch their favourite programmes on DStv and GOtv, they will have to pay more.

Analysis showed that the costliest package on the DStv platform, Premium, the firm effected a 20.4 per cent rise to N29,500 from N24,500, and the least bouquet, Padi, it effected an 18.0 per cent rise.

As for the GOtv Supa+ package, MultiChoice raised the subscription fee by 19.1 per cent to N12,500 from N10,500, and subscribers of the GOtv Smallie package will have to N1,300 per month compared with the previous rate of N1,100, indicating an 18.2 per cent hike.

Business Post reports that this increment is the second by the company in 2023.

“On Monday, November 6, 2023, we will adjust our prices across all our packages on DStv and GOtv.

“We understand the impact this change may have on you – our valued customer, but the rise in the cost of business operations, has led us to make this difficult decision.

“It remains our mission to provide the best entertainment and viewing experience to you and are committed to continue to deliver high-quality content and unparalleled service,” a notice from the firm stated.

Below are the new subscription rates as received from MultiChoice.
