The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr Philip Shaibu, has been impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly.
Mr Shaibu was removed from office by the legislative arm of the state government on Monday after the conclusion of a panel instituted by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa.
The seven-man team led by retired Justice Daniel Omonuwa was inaugurated last Wednesday and concluded its investigations into allegations against Mr Shaibu last Friday.
The committee submitted its report to the Edo Assembly despite the Deputy Governor and his counsel not showing up even after they were invited to react to the allegations.
At the plenary on Monday, the state parliament impeached Mr Shaibu after he was allegedly found guilty of the allegations against him, perjury and leaking of the government’s secrets.
Mr Shaibu had challenged his impeachment at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The matter is expected to come up at the court today before Justice I. E. Ekwo.
