MultiChoice Nigeria has upwardly reviewed prices of its bouquets of DStv and GOtv effective from Monday, May 1, 2017.
This comes a year after the firm activated a 20 percent increment on the DStv packages on April 1, 2016.
Already, subscribers have been informed of this development via text messages.
Business Post gathered that from May 1, 2017, the GOtv N1200 bouquet will now go for N1300, while those on the premium bouquet on the DStv will now have to part with N14,700 instead of the N13,980 they normally pay.
Confirming this, Managing Director of Multichoice Nigeria, Mr John Ugbe, said in a press statement that the decision was made after careful consideration into the market and review of its business operations.
He said, “We announced last year that we would do everything possible to hold the price barring any extreme factors.
“However, all our content is purchased in dollars and although we have done everything possible to hold the prices even with the price of everything else going up, we are now left with no choice but to adjust our subscription prices from 1 May.”
Mr Ugbe said further that, “Our key priority is to put subscribers’ needs at the heart of everything we do and therefore, in determining the price adjustment, we took into account many factors including, the impact on the customer, current inflation which stands at 19 percent, programming costs and efficiencies within the company.
“Please be assured that we have worked really hard to keep this year’s fees manageable.”
Meanwhile, some Nigerians have started to react to this development, with some of them already calling for a showdown with MultiChoice.
They have called on the government to do something about the decision of MultiChoice to hike the DStv and GOtv subscriptions again.
