Legendary Super Eagles Goalkeeper Peter Rufai Dies After Illness

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, fondly known as Dodo Mayana, has breathed his last.

According to multiple reports, the ex-Nigerian international died on Thursday after a prolong illness.

The late goalie was in goal for the senior Nigerian football team at its first FIFA World Cup in the United States in 1994.

He was a prolific shot-stopper when he donned the Green White Green jersey of Nigeria at international duties, raking in 65 caps.

For a long time, the 61-year-old retired footballer was not seen in public.

Before his demise, Peter Rufai plied his trade at Stationery Stores, Go Ahead Eagles, and Femo Scorpions.

He also played professional football in Europe, including in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, in a senior career that lasted 20 years.
