Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has flagged off the construction of Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Mr Wike, at a press conference at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday, said the academy will positively project the state to the world.
He said Real Madrid is a world class football outfit known across the globe and that the siting of its academy in the state followed series of discussions with management of the club, who won the Champions League last Saturday in Kiev after defeating Liverpool 3-1.
Present at the press briefing to flag off the construction of the academy were Real Madrid Ambassador, Ricardo Gallego; President of International Sports Press Association, Mr Gianni Merlo; and many others.
