By Dipo Olowookere

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Thursday found the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, guilty of false declaration of assets charges filed against him.

The charges were filed against him by the federal government through the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) filed against him.

At the ruling this afternoon, the tribunal directed government to remove the chief jurist from office because of the issue.

He was also ban from holding any public office in the country for the next 10 years, while all monies in his bank account are seized and forfeited to the federal government.

According to the judge, the suspended CJN could not convincingly proof to the tribunal how he acquired the monies.

Business Post reports that on April 4, a day after the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommended him for compulsory retirement after deliberating on a petition by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Onnoghen tendered his resignation.
