Immigration Threatens to Dismiss Female Officers for ‘Indecent Flaunting of Bodies’

By Dipo Olowookere

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has queried three of its female personnel who partook in an online video challenge called #BopDaddyChallenge.

The employees of the agency were seen in a video changing from their uniform to charming private wears.

Several people who saw the video commended the immigration officers for showing another side of the agency, but the top hierarchy of the service feels otherwise, describing the act embarrassing and bringing the organisation into disrepute.

In a query issued to the three personnel and signed by the Assistant Comptroller General, Mr Iam Haliru, and dated April 15, 2020, they were asked to explain why they should not be dismissed from the service. They were given 72 hours to respond to the letter.

“The attention of the Comptroller General has been drawn to a video clip trending in the social media in recent times which revealed a rather disturbing and embarrassing display of indecent flaunting of your bodies, desecration of service uniform/berets and the use of inappropriate language thereby, sabotaging the values upheld by the service.

“To state the obvious, your act has caused a lot of embarrassment to the NIS and in line with our standard as a paramilitary organisation is considered scandalous and an act unbecoming of an officer and therefore, a violation of PSR 030401 and 030402. This is a serious misconduct liable to dismissal from the service.

“In view of the foregoing, therefore, you are requested to make a representation, if any, within 72 hours on receipt of this letter, why disciplinary action should not to be taken against you for violation of the following
PSR 030401(a)(I) – Immoral Behaviour
PSR 030402(t) – Sabotage.
PSR 030402(w) – Any other act unbecoming of a public officer.

“You are to acknowledge the receipt of this correspondence ref. NIS/SHQ/PRU/1418/20, in the space provided,” the query said.
