Nigeria Discharges 6,739 COVID-19 Patients in June

In years past, there has never been a time for strict measures as it has panned out globally in the past six months.

This drastic change was caused by the novel virus, coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic where nations; under-developed, developed and developing, have experienced phases of lockdown.

The pandemic has caused varieties of changes in the world as a whole which affects economic, educational, social, political, technology sectors of the world.

The month of June has recorded a cumulative of 22,574 new cases, discharged and death cases while 11,152 was recorded in May.

It was recorded that the 4th week had the highest frequency with 6,498 of new cases, discharged and death cases put together.

It was also recorded that there was a 31 percent increase in new cases, 42 percent increase in discharged and 13 percent increase in deaths the month of June compared to what was recorded in the month of May.

The Presidential Task Force Chairman, Boss Mustapha disclosed an update where the federal government is considering the implementation of another lockdown in 18 local governments where 60 percent of confirmed cases have been recorded.

In Lagos State, which is the epicentre of the virus, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said the state government is not planning to embark on another lockdown as rumours have been peddled but intend to increase the COVID-19 testing centres. As the state has four testing centres including partnerships with six private organisations.

It is of great importance to note that implementing social distancing, regular hand washing for at least 20 seconds, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, coughing and sneezing into one’s elbow and staying at home if need be, are the best ways to avoid the spread and contracting the novel coronavirus.
