Deji of Akure Orders Closure of Markets, Shops

All markets and shops in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, have been directed to close for two different days.

A statement on Friday said the directive was given by the paramount ruler of the ancient town, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.

In the statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Adeyeye Michael, the monarch explained the closure was to enable the town to celebrate the annual Aheregbe and Amole festivals.

According to Mr Michael, all shops and markets in the town would be precisely closed on Monday, August 24, 2020, and Wednesday, September 9, 2020.

“The palace wishes to notify the residents of Akure and its environ that all markets and shops in Akure will be shut on Monday, August 24, 2020, and Wednesday, September 9, 2020.

“The closure becomes necessary as part of the age-long tradition in observing the annual Aheregbe and Amole festival,” the statement said.

“The palace wishes to inform residents that no trading or opening of shops under any guise will be allowed on these days.

“Residents, market women and shop owners are kindly enjoined to comply with this directive.

“However, the festival will not in any way restrict both human and vehicular movement,” the statement said.
