Coronation Merchant Bank Wins at Euromoney Markets Awards 2026
By Adedapo Adesanya
Coronation Merchant Bank has been named Nigeria’s Best Sales and Trading Team at the Euromoney Markets Awards 2026, in recognition of its performance in fixed income trading and contribution to the country’s financial markets.
The award, announced in London on October 16, recognises the bank’s Global Markets and Treasury franchise and its delivery of fixed income solutions, including Eurobonds, bonds and Treasury Bills, to institutional clients.
The bank said its services cater to brokers, pension fund administrators, asset managers and financial institutions, providing market access, liquidity and efficient transaction execution.
According to the bank, its performance on the FMDQ fixed income league table improved in 2025, when it broke into the top 10, before entering the top three in January 2026. It also retained the number one position in both bonds and Treasury Bills trading.
The bank recorded a 140.6 per cent year-on-year increase in trading volumes and a 65.81 per cent rise in annual income, while its active institutional client base grew from 43 at the end of the first half of 2025 to 50 by year-end.
It added that the proportion of orders meeting client benchmarks increased from 90 per cent to 95 per cent, while on-time and accurate transaction processing improved from 89 per cent to 96 per cent.
The bank attributed the gains partly to adjustments in its pricing framework, execution support and client relationship management, following an assessment of competitor pricing, market liquidity patterns and client behaviour during a period of declining industry trading volumes.
It also highlighted its transaction controls, stating that all fixed income transactions were executed through Bloomberg and regulated through the FMDQ platform. Settlements were independently verified against FMDQ data before being posted to client accounts, while continuous reconciliations helped keep client records aligned with market positions.
Commenting on the award, the chief executive of Coronation Merchant Bank, Mr Obeahon Ohiwerei, said the recognition reflected the strength of the bank’s Global Markets and Treasury business, client confidence and the dedication of its workforce.
He said the bank had focused on execution, market expertise and innovative solutions to help clients navigate changing market conditions, adding that its improved FMDQ rankings and increased client activity demonstrated the effectiveness of its strategy.
Similarly, the Divisional Head of Global Markets and Treasury, Mr Ronald Nwaezeapu, said the award reflected the team’s focus on client outcomes, execution and continuous improvement.
He said the bank strengthened its pricing framework, deepened client engagement and invested in technology to improve operational speed, efficiency and scalability while maintaining strong controls, adding that the lender will continue to provide fixed income market solutions and deliver value to clients.
