Wema Bank Customers to Enjoy All-Expense Paid Trip to Russia

By Dipo Olowookere

Nigeria’s innovative bank which pioneered the country’s first digital bank ALAT, Wema Bank Plc, has announced plans to take some of its customers to Russia next month.

The lucky customers will have the privilege to watch the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which Nigeria’s Super Eagles will participate in.

Those who will make the trip to the Vladimir Putin-led country this summer would be picked through a promo organised by Wema Bank.

The promotion was put together to reward a selected number of customers who have saved at least N100,000 in their Wema Savings Accounts or ALAT Account over a period of 30 days.

“We are rewarding our customers who operate Savings Accounts and have saved N100,000 or more for at least 30 days, with a trip to Russia,” said Dotun Ifebogun, head Retail and SME Banking at Wema Bank.

“This promotion is our way of saying thank you to customers who have committed to saving. It is also a way of encouraging non-customers to start saving by opening a Wema Savings Account or ALAT Account as new customers who open an account and save a minimum of N100,000 for 30days will also be rewarded,” Ifebogun added.

Wema Bank, which recently celebrated its 73rd anniversary and the 1st anniversary of its digital bank ALAT, has always been committed to encouraging savings.

The bank has in the past supported events and campaigns that drive savings culture. The latest initiative is believed to encourage more people to save.

“Savings helps people become financially secure and provide a safety net in case of an emergency,” stressed Funmilayo Falola, Head of Brand and Marketing Communications at Wema Bank Plc. “It gets even better when you are being rewarded for saving your money,” she added.

New customers who open a Wema Savings account or ALAT account and save a minimum of N100,000 for at least 30 days stand a chance of winning an all-expense paid trip to Russia. Multiples of N100,000 increase customers’ chances of winning.

The bank said it decided on sending its lucky customers to Russia because 2018 is the best year in recent times anyone could have gone to the world’s largest nation. Also, June is the month with the best weather most convenient for long hours of sightseeing and “ball-watching”.

Otuaro, A Deputy Governor With Peace and Development Mindset

By Jerome-Mario Chijioke Utomi Aside from the painful fact that public offices in Nigeria erroneously view their positions as an opportunity for private gain/personal enrichment instead of an avenue for the public good, there exist in my view, two other constraints that explain why Nigeria’s democratic experience remained nascent, socioeconomically stunted and devoid of democracy dividends after over two decades of unbroken practice. The first and very fundamental has to do with the fact that public office seekers/holders are usually laced with set vision/agendas which are at odds with the general inspirations and motivations of the citizens.
