Choosing the Best Towel Radiator
When it comes to outfitting your bathroom with the perfect finishing touch, a towel radiator not only serves a functional purpose by keeping your towels warm and dry, but it can also add a touch of elegance to the space. With a plethora of choices available, selecting the right towel radiator can be a daunting task. Here are some key factors to consider to help you make an informed decision.
Types of Towel Radiators
First, it’s important to understand the different types of towel radiators available on the market:
- Hydronic Towel Radiators: These are connected to your central heating system, much like a traditional radiator. They are capable of providing a steady heat output and are an efficient choice for homes with a reliable central heating system.
- Electric Towel Radiators: These operate independently of your home’s central heating, utilizing electricity to generate heat. They are ideal for bathrooms that are used sporadically, such as guest bathrooms, or in homes where the central heating is not always in use.
- Duel Fuel Towel Radiators: As the name suggests, these radiators offer the flexibility of operating on both your central heating system and electricity. This allows you to use them year-round, regardless of whether your central heating is switched on or off.
Design and Aesthetics
One of the more enjoyable aspects of shopping for a towel radiator is choosing a design that complements your bathroom décor. Here are some style points to consider:
- Traditional vs Modern: From classic designs that evoke a sense of timeless elegance to sleek, contemporary styles, there’s a towel radiator for every décor scheme.
- Material Finish: The finish of your towel radiator can significantly impact the overall look of your bathroom. Common materials include stainless steel, chrome, and brass, each offering its unique aesthetic and functional benefits.
- Colour: When most people think of towel radiators, they imagine the common polished chrome finish. However, many manufacturers offer a broad spectrum of colours, enabling you to make a bold statement or harmonise with existing colour schemes.
Functionality and Heat Output
While aesthetics are important, functionality should not be overlooked. Here are some practical considerations:
- Size: The dimensions of the radiator should be proportionate to the size of your bathroom. Ensuring it provides adequate heating is essential; you don’t want a radiator that’s too small to heat the space effectively.
- Heat Output: This is measured in British Thermal Units (BTUs). A higher BTU rating means more heat output. Make sure to calculate the required BTUs to heat your bathroom adequately. There are several online calculators available that can help with this.
- Energy Efficiency: As with any heating appliance, the energy efficiency of the towel radiator is a significant factor. Look for models that offer maximum heat output with minimum energy consumption.
Installation and Maintenance
Proper installation and maintenance are crucial to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your towel radiator:
- Installation: While some may opt for DIY installation, professional installation is often recommended, particularly for hydronic and duel fuel types. A professional plumber can ensure the radiator is securely mounted and correctly connected to your heating system or electrical supply.
- Maintenance: Regular maintenance can extend the life of your towel radiator. This includes checking for leaks, ensuring that air isn’t trapped within the system (bleeding the radiator), and keeping it clean to avoid any build-up of dust or debris.

Airtel Nigeria Suspends Airtime, Data Lending Services
By Modupe Gbadeyanka
Barely 24 hours after MTN Nigeria announced the suspension of its data and airtime lending services, another operator, Airtel Nigeria, has followed suit.
In a statement on Friday by its Director of Corporate Communications & CSR, Mr Femi Adeniran, Airtel Nigeria said it would not no longer offer the airtime and data credit services for now.
However, the company noted that customers will continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to airtime and data purchases through its existing channels.
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) introduced new rules on lending services in the country, and in compliance with this, telecommunications companies had to suspend rendering the services.
The affected services allowed eligible prepaid customers to borrow airtime or data and repay on their next recharge.
The Director of Marketing at Airtel Nigeria, Mr Ismail Adeshina, in the statement, noted the suspension of the services was to “align our operations with evolving requirements.”
“Airtel Nigeria remains committed to the highest standards of compliance, transparency, and consumer protection, while continuing to innovate responsibly within Nigeria’s digital ecosystem,” he added.
The telco noted that the temporary suspension is not expected to have a material impact on its service standards across the country, promising to provide updates on the status of the service in due course.

MTN Nigeria Stops Xtratime Airtime, Data Borrowing Service
By Aduragbemi Omiyale
The airtime and data credit advance service offered by MTN Nigeria under the product name Xtratime has been temporarily suspended.
In a notice to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited on Thursday, MTN Nigeria explained that the decision to pause the service was due to regulatory compliance with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
However, it said customers could continue to purchase airtime and data through other alternative digital channels.
The company also disclosed that it does not expect the suspension of Xtratime to affect its topline because of its robust revenue mix.
“MTN Nigeria Communications Plc hereby notifies the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public that the company has temporarily suspended its airtime and data credit advance service (Xtratime).
“This relates to the implementation of processes under the Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025, which introduced a new compliance and licensing framework for entities providing digital or non-traditional consumer credit services.
“In the interim, customers continue to have access to alternative digital channels for airtime and data purchases.
“Given the scale within the revenue mix, we do not expect the temporary suspension to have a material impact.
“We are closely monitoring customer behaviour and usage trends and will provide an update on any quantified impact in our Q1 2026 results,” the notice signed by the company secretary, Ms Uto Ukpanah, read.
