M-KOPA Active Customers in Nigeria Hit Three Million

Fintech company, M-KOPA, has surpassed 3 million active customers for the first time, as it advances its target to serve 10 million customers by 2030.
According to the company’s 2025 Impact Report, nine out of 10 active customers say M-KOPA has improved their lives, up from eight last year.
Since 2011, M-KOPA has reached 7 million total customers and deployed over $2 billion in credit to hardworking micro-entrepreneurs in the informal sector who are typically locked out by traditional financial services.
Since 2020, the company has enabled 2.5 million first-time smartphone users, with 81 per cent of women customers reporting they couldn’t afford a smartphone without M-KOPA. For 55 per cent of customers, M-KOPA represents their first access to any formal financial product, while 67% are accessing health insurance for the first time.
Through its More than a Phone platform, 70 per cent of customers use their M-KOPA smartphone to generate income and 59 per cent report higher earnings since ownership.
“What matters most to us is how many people we’re actively serving every day, those who stay engaged with us over time. Our active customer number reached 3 million for the first time this year,” said Mr Jesse Moore, co-founder and chief executive of M-KOPA. “When we ask customers,’ does M-KOPA make your life better?’ 9 out of 10 say yes. That’s tangible and meaningful impact on millions of lives.”
M-KOPA serves people who make their income daily in Africa’s vast informal sector but remain unseen by conventional financial services designed for salaried workers. The company addresses a critical gap in Sub-Saharan Africa, where 60 per cent of the population has internet coverage, but only 27 per cent can afford to access it.
The report also showed that has also financed 4,000+ electric motorbikes and 127,700 circular economy products, which has resulting in 46,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided while over 35,000 agents (17 per cent growth), with 57 per cent reporting M-KOPA as their first income opportunity
As of 2024, M-KOPA’s local procurement spend totalled $236 million across all markets. Women represent 45 per cent of the platform’s agent network and 40 per cent of all customers, with 86 per cent reporting improved quality of life.
M-KOPA operates across Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa, and employs over 2,000 full-time staff and 35,000 sales agents across the continent. The company has been recognized by the Financial Times as one of Africa’s Fastest-Growing Companies for four consecutive years and by CNBC as one of the World’s Top Fintech Companies 2025.

One of the leading global brands, Unilever, has sealed a five-year deal with Google Cloud for the deployment of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive growth and desirability for its brand portfolios like Dove, Vaseline and Hellmann’s.
Business Post reports that the collaboration will focus on three core pillars of agentic commerce and marketing intelligence, an integrated data and cloud foundation, and advanced AI.

In addition, Unilever will transition key enterprise applications and data platforms to Google Cloud, creating a connected environment for scalable AI deployment across the value chain.
Also, this partnership will fast-track Unilever’s adoption of pioneering technologies, combining Unilever’s deep expertise with Google’s AI capabilities to sustain Unilever’s long-term competitive edge within the CPG market.

Also commenting, the EMEA president for Google Cloud, Tara Brady, said, “In partnering with Unilever as it boldly reimagines its business processes, we are not just modernizing legacy systems; we are deploying our advanced models, such as Gemini, to create a system of intelligence that reasons, learns, and acts. This will set a new standard for agility and consumer engagement in the CPG sector.”
It was gathered that Unilever would use Google Cloud’s technologies, such as its enterprise AI platform, Vertex AI, to build new capabilities in brand discovery, measurement and AI-augmented marketing. This will create a new model for how consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands are discovered and shopped, as consumer journeys shift toward more conversational and agentic experiences.
By migrating its integrated data and cloud platform to Google Cloud, Unilever will build an enterprise-wide, AI-first digital backbone to generate demand faster, turn data into actionable insights, and respond to market shifts with greater agility. This foundation will also support the development of agentic workflows—intelligent systems capable of executing complex tasks across Unilever’s business processes.
