Nigerian e-commerce store builder, Selar, has entered the Kenyan market as part of its expansion strategy after recording successes in its primary market.

Selar empowers creators to showcase and sell their digital products, such as courses, e-books, music, art, and tickets.

Speaking on the move, the founder of Selar, Mr Douglas Kendyson, said, “This Kenya expansion is one of the most important decisions we’ve made as a company. Kenya is the biggest market in East Africa with lots of amazing creators across the board.”

“We’re also really excited about collaborating with lots of Kenyan creators in the coming months,” he added.

The firm said its primary goal is to grow the creator economy in Kenya and Africa using proceeds of a $50,000 grant through the Jobtech Accelerator Programme, steered by Mercy Corps and BFA Global.

“Through the grant, Selar aims to expand its product offerings to the Kenyan market, providing more Africans, particularly Kenyans, with opportunities to earn extra income.

“Additionally, Selar plans to develop exciting new products during the accelerator programme, with details to be announced in due time,” the firm said.

For Selar, as an e-commerce store builder platform, creators or clients are required to sign up and set up their bank details. Once the bank details are approved, they can upload products and set prices in different currencies, input product details, and create a link which would then be shared with respective stores. Selar receives a commission on sales.

“Selar supports eight currencies today and because we work with multiple providers to make this possible, payouts to your bank account/wallet are made based on the currency of the sale. You get to sell in any currency and have the amount converted and credited in your country’s default currency” the company added.
