The five-day huge discounts offered to customers of Africa’s largest food retailers, Shoprite, will come to an end on Sunday, November 29, 2020.
The company put this together to celebrate this year’s Black Friday sales, giving customers of the firm the opportunity to shop for items at cheaper prices.
The early Black Friday deals, which started on Wednesday, November 25, will climax tomorrow with big discount on everyday essentials.
“In response to COVID-19 pandemic, Shoprite will for the first time offer early Black Friday deals and keep the deals valid for longer, to allow customers more time to plan and shop, and to prevent overcrowding,” Shoprite said in a statement.
It further said “some of the great deals on offer include Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite products, Power Vegetable Cooking oil, Ariel Washing Powder and many other products.”
“Stringent hygiene and sanitizing protocols will be in place at all Shoprite supermarkets in Nigeria to help protect customers and employees as far as possible.
“These include, but are not restricted to, the use of face masks, hand sanitizer, social distancing and limited entry where necessary to avoid overcrowding.
“Customers are encouraged to pay by card and to capitalize on the extended trading hours to make the most of the deep-cut specials that will be on offer,” the firm said further.
According to Wikipedia, Black Friday is an informal name for the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
The day after Thanksgiving has been regarded as the beginning of the United States Christmas shopping season since 1952.
The term Black Friday did not become widely used until more recent decades, during which time global retailers have adopted the term and date to market their own holiday sales.
