Ondo Agog as Dignitaries Light up 2022 LEAD Awards

    By Dipo Olowookere

Ondo State, especially Akure, the state capital, wore a different mood on Sunday, November 27, 2022, as dignitaries from different walks of life were around for the 2022 Leadership Excellence And Dignity (LEAD) Awards.

Business Post gathered that a few hours before the show started, the guests were already coming into the venue of the ceremony, the Dome International Conference Centre.

The arrival of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and the First Lady of the state, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, signalled the importance of the programme.

The convener of the event, Mr Abiola Alaba Peters (AAP), could not hide his excitement at the calibre of people who thronged the ceremony to be honoured.

“I want to say a huge thank you to the Ondo State Government, through the office of the First Lady and the Deputy Governor, for honouring us with their presence.

“I also want to thank our sponsors, Denki Wire, Cape Town, Alba Royal, Shaunze Lounge, G-Sound and the entire Project Lead Africa team for their huge support, my Project Director, Adebukola Oba, Gbenga Shaba, Jenifer Nwosu, and my family, thank you for being there,” he enthused.

In her speech, Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu, while speaking on the theme of the day, Rewarding Tenacity, An Example for the Next Generation, urged Nigerians to avoid shortcuts to success, emphasising that it is more honourable to endure difficult times to succeed than to take a shortcut and be disgraced.

“I stand before you today as a typical example of a Nigerian from a humble background who endured all sorts of temptations and distractions to come this far. My background, training, marriage and attainments are all evident products of tenacity.

“The absence of tenacity in the younger generation of Nigerians forms part of the problem we battle as a people.

“Of the prized value system that the society seems to have lost, delayed gratification ranks high. By delayed gratification, I mean the ability to suspend the desire for immediate gain in favour of later and greater reward. This value, great as it is, has become virtually non-existent, and its absence, a threat,” she remarked and thanked the organisers of the 2022 LEAD Awards for honouring those who have lived an exemplary life.

The highlight of the evening was the celebration of several sons and daughters of Ondo State, who were honoured for their contributions to the development of the Sunshine state.

The awardees were Dr Tunji Abayomi, Pro-Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University; Adekuoroye Odunnayo, Ondo State-born international wrestler; Mrs Olamide Falana, Senior Special Adviser to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Gender Matters; and Tunji Alapini Jr, ADC to the Governor.

Others were Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, Gbenga Olaseeni, MurrayKurves Secret, Seun Alabi, Lijoka Jesu-Demilade, DG PPIMU, Engr. Babajide Akeredolu, and Ceci Supermarket, among others.

While Kuchi-Kuchi crooner, J’odie, serenaded the guests with her sweet voice, a popular actor and filmmaker, Yomi Fabiyi, anchored the event, with Mr Nigeria International, Odunnayo Ajewole Emmanuel, making an appearance.

  • Technology’s Impact on Fashion Manufacturing Industry

Technology’s Impact on Fashion Manufacturing Industry

The fashion industry is a very competitive one. There is always someone new designing clothing with a new look. Keeping a collection on the cutting edge and selling to customers is a problem. How can a fashion company track what products are selling well and which ones should be discontinued and replaced with better-selling items? Technology is the way to keep a company running smoothly and on the leading edge of fashion sales.

How Is Technology Used In Fashion Manufacturing?

The clothing manufacturers use technology such as a product lifecycle management system in clothing design, sourcing of materials, collaboration, and supply chain management. The technology available online can help manage stocking and manufacturing processes and tell a company where their product is being marketed and sold and how successful each location is. They can find out what population demographic is buying their fashion products. Companies can also manage their bookkeeping and finances with the software.

The footwear, accessory and clothing industries are dealing with complicated and ever-changing global markets. Customers are demanding smart, up-to-date, personalized, and sustainable products at competitive prices. Companies must also keep track of their competitors. Fashion trends change often, and what is selling well one month may not sell at all in a few months.

The advantages of using technology in the form of product lifestyle management programs include:

    • Product lifecycle collaboration with everyone in the design, production, and sale of the products. A single source of information for material supplies, size and measurement charts, designs, colour palettes, and other information brings unity to a company.
    • Reducing the need for the physical sampling of every material used in the fashion design and manufacturing process. Virtual collaboration and viewing of samples will save time and reduce mistakes.
    • Using this software can make it possible to shorten the time from initial design to getting fashions to the market and customers.
    • Centralization of a fashion manufacturer’s operations is easier. When one set of cloud-based software is used by all parts of a company’s manufacturing process, a company can run more effectively with all the parts having an easier time communicating.

The Impact of New Technology on Fashion

All areas of the fashion industry have been improved or affected by technology. Product production has been made easier, faster, and smoother. The new production methods using technology benefits customers as well as manufacturers. It helps with reducing manufacturing waste and costs.

With modern technology, clothing and fashion brands can increase their reach or influence and reach more markets than in the past. They can use websites and social media to get the word out faster and further when a new collection is being introduced.

Technology helps fashion companies research the market and find the materials to use in a new collection faster. Then, they can find out what their potential customers prefer and what trends are strong and which ones are ending.

Fashion manufacturers and retailers can have websites that let customers see new outfits and what they might look like on them using avatars on site. The software on websites can help customers customize their fashion choices from home. This is an advantage when many customers are shopping more from home because of the pandemic and other reasons.

Fashion retailers and manufacturers who embrace the new technology can keep up with today’s customers and grow their businesses.

D’Banj in ICPC Custody Over Alleged N-Power Fraud

    By Modupe Gbadeyanka

All seems not to be well with a Nigerian pop star, Mr Dapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’Banj, as there are reports that he is being held in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

In a report by Premium Times, which has not been independently verified by Business Post, it was alleged that the entertainer was detained for fraud involving the N-Power project.

The government came up with this scheme in 2016, just a year after President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, to provide short-term jobs for youths in the country, especially graduates.

In the report, D’Banj was brought into the programme to leverage his popularity among young Nigerians, but he allegedly connived with some government officials to divert funds meant for the successful implementation of the initiative.

According to the report, he was invited by the agency to explain how funds meant for the scheme found their way into bank accounts linked to him, but he reportedly ignored it, giving different excuses.

However, when it seemed it was the end of the road for him, the singer reportedly surrendered himself at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja on Tuesday, and he has not been released despite making efforts to obtain an administrative bail.

Citing sources familiar with the arrest of D’Banj, the reputable platform disclosed that the ICPC is seeking a court order to keep the Kokomaster for a long period, pending when the investigation would be concluded and possibly charged to court for prosecution.

It was alleged that “D’Banj colluded with some compromised government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme.”

Filmmaker Okey Ogunjiofor Denies Praising Uzodinma for Transforming Imo

    By Modupe Gbadeyanka

A Nigerian filmmaker, Mr Okechukwu Ogunjiofor, also referred to Okey Ogunjiofor, has expressed dismay over a report linking him with a purported endorsement of the Governor of Imo State, Mr Hope Uzodinma, for transforming the state.

In a statement, the respected Nollywood icon, who produced the award-winning Amina, said he was not part of the movie practitioners, who visited Mr Uzodinma as reported by one of the leading newspapers in the country.

He described the report as “terrible journalism” and demanded a retraction of the story as he was not in the state as claimed by the reporter.

“My attention has been drawn to a news article circulating on various news and social media platforms in the public domain titled Nollywood stars heap up encoumiums on Uzodimma for Imo state transformation as published by Vanguard newspaper December 4, 2022.

“I, Okechukwu (Okey) Ogunjiofor hereby state as follows:

“1. That I, on behalf my Company Videosonic Studios, and the cast and crew entered our latest film Amina for various categories of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards 2022.

“2. That subsequently, BON Awards announced the nominations and Amina got 10 Nominations in various categories.

“3. That due to these Nominations the organisers of BON Awards extended invitation to us to come to Owerri, Imo state (the hosting state for 2022 BON Awards) slated for December 4, 2022.

“4. That although logistics were arranged by BON Awards for Okey Ogunjiofor to represent his office, cast and crew at the event, he was unable to make the journey.

“5. That a slight mix-up in the logistics planning caused him to miss his flight to the awards.

“6. That the organisers called to apologise for the mix-up and offered to make it good by booking another flight but I declined to travel to Owerri.

“7. That we are very shocked and surprised to see the published material stating that I was at the event.

“8. We are therefore stating categorically here that this is a PR job made without our consent or approval.

“9. This report is very unfortunate, and very unprofessional and in bad taste.

“10. That I wasn’t anywhere near Imo state on the said date, neither was I in Owerri for the show, yet the paper says I was among those who commended the Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for his uncommon devotion to duty.

“11. This is terrible journalism and I hereby demand Vanguard to retract this statement and correct it adequately in their subsequent publications,” the statement signed by Mr Ogunjiojor stated.

Spotify Names Ayra Starr as Most Streamed Female Artist in Nigeria

    By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Mavins Record’s singer, Ayra Starr, has emerged as the most streamed female artist in Nigeria this year on the popular music streaming platform, Spotify.

In its 2022 Spotify Wrapped, the platform said the singer beat respected acts like Tems, Rihanna, Asa, Beyonce and others to clinch the top spot.

But overall, Grammy award winner, Burna Boy, claimed the top position, closely followed by Asake and Wizkid.

The Spotify listing is always anticipated because it gives an overview of what people listened to on the platform in the year under consideration.

This year’s data paints a picture of how Nigerian music captured hearts, both at home and around the world.

In 2022, Nigerian music has continued to hoist its flag in different global territories claiming its space on the world stage. The year in Afrobeats was defined by the emergence of a hybrid Amapiano sound, an endless pipeline of hits, and new heights for a generation of pop royalty who are questioning our ideas of what’s popular in style and sound.

“2022 ushered us into an era of cultural overdrive and we’re excited for fans and artists alike to share these insights on the music they created and listened to this year,” Spotify’s Artist & Label Partnerships Manager, West Africa,” Mr Victor Okpala, stated.

According to Spotify, Nigerians listened to nearly three times as much local music in 2022 than they did in 2021, with a 291 per cent year-on-year increase in local music consumption.

Also, they brought out speakers on Fridays, which is when they listen to the most music, and data showed that they listen to songs mostly at 11 am, right after morning commutes and to-do lists are taken care of.

  • Nigerian Music Stars in Hot Demand Worldwide—NCC

Nigerian Music Stars in Hot Demand Worldwide—NCC

    By Adedapo Adesanya

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has tasked content creators in the country to take advantage of the many advancements in the nation’s growing telecommunications industry, saying much can be achieved through music artists, who are hotcakes globally.

The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NCC, Mr Umar Danbatta, stated this in Lagos over the weekend while speaking at the 10th Annual Brands and Marketing Conference of the Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) where the NCC was conferred with the Regulator of the Decade award.

Represented by the Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, Mr Adeleke Adewolu, the EVC noted that the ongoing process, for which arrangements are in top gear, followed the successful auctioning of two bands of the 3.5GHz spectrum in December of 2021.

Mr Danbatta informed the participants at the conference that content creation and consumption had grown around the telecommunications infrastructure provided by technology, which Nigerian entertainers had leveraged to become global brands.

He said,  “Due to heavy leverage on digital platforms, the Nigerian entertainment industry has gone global. Nollywood is one of the biggest movie industries in the world. In fact, more movies are produced by Nollywood yearly in comparison to Hollywood.

“Nigerian music stars are in hot demand worldwide because of their popularity and brand recognition on social media. We should add that many of these global superstars emerging from Nigeria launched into stardom by leveraging caller tunes and other mobile content platforms to grow their brands and huge followers online.”

Mr Danbatta declared that, “Digital platforms are fostering different types of systemic change, creating new brands, eroding the value of some brands, whilst at the same time increasing the value of other brands. The innovation-transformation-disruption cycle has come to stay and will be exacerbated as technology continues to evolve.”

The EVC  assured that the NCC would continue to aggressively drive the rollout and seamless operation of infrastructure to drive new digital technologies to benefit all sectors of our economy.

“It is our hope that Nigerian brands will continue to leverage robust infrastructure to grow their value and ensure that our country derives maximum benefit from unfolding digital transformation efforts,” he said.

Gospel Singer Sammie Okposo Slumps, Dies

    By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Reports just filtering in indicate that a popular gospel artist in Nigeria, Sammie Okposo, has passed on.

Details of this unfortunate incident are still sketchy, but it was gathered that he passed away on Friday at the age of 51 after he slumped.

Recall that some months ago, Sammie Okposo was in the news over issues concerning his marriage.

The Wellu Wellu crooner later apologised to his fans and others for betraying their trust, promising to be a better person.

Three years ago, the Delta State-born music star had a close encounter with death after the propeller shaft of his car pulled off while on motion.
