Austin Laz, 26 Others Pull Down Customs Street by 0.08%

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited experienced a pullback of 0.08 per cent on Tuesday, influenced by profit-taking in 27 equities led by Austin Laz.

The selling on Customs Street yesterday left the market index negative after only 23 equities ended on the gainers’ chart, indicating a weak investor sentiment.

Data showed that Austin Laz lost 6.27 per cent to trade at N2.69, Deap Capital depreciated by 5.56 per cent to N1.70, FTN Cocoa declined by 4.84 per cent to N5.90, Regency Alliance slumped by 4.40 per cent to N1.74, and Champion Breweries shed 4.26 per cent to close at N15.30.

Conversely, Custodian Investment gained 9.94 per cent to settle at N44.80, Multiverse improved by 9.68 per cent to N13.60, eTranzact grew by 9.45 per cent to N17.95, Eunisell also jumped by 9.45 per cent to N27.80, and Union Dicon advanced by 8.42 per cent to N10.30.

On a sectorial basis, the commodity and the industrial goods sectors remained unchanged, the energy space increased by 0.14 per cent, while the insurance, consumer goods, and the banking sectors depleted by 0.58 pr cent, 0.39 per cent, and 0.30 per cent, respectively.

Consequently, the All-Share Index (ASI) moderated by 112.22 points to 141,546.78 points from 141,659 points and the market capitalisation contracted by N71 billion to N89.556 trillion from N89.627 trillion.

A total of 415.0 million shares valued at N13.0 billion exchanged hands in 25,386 deals on Tuesday versus the 555.1 million shares worth N24.1 billion transacted in 31,578 deals recorded on Monday, implying a decrease in the trading volume, value, and number of deals by 25.24 per cent, 46.06 per cent, and 19.61 per cent apiece.

GTCO ended the day as the busiest stock after selling 32.9 million units for N3.1 billion, Secure Electronic Technology traded 32.5 million units valued at N26.4 million, UBA exchanged 26.2 million units worth N1.3 billion, Chams transacted 22.0 million units valued at N74.9 million, and Regency Alliance sold 19.0 million units worth N33.5 million.
