A new association has been launched by past and present Business Editors across the country.
The new body is called Association of Business Editors of Nigeria (ABEN) and its Chairman is the former Editor of Vanguard Newspaper, Mr Omo Gabriel.
Speaking at the inauguration of ABEN, Mr Gabriel said forming the body was very tough because of different factors including registration of the group with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Commenting on the economy, the ABEN chief said despite all efforts made by the different political dispensation to resuscitate it, the Nigerian economy has continued to defy all applied solutions.
According to him, it was against this background that the association was formed to serve as a platform and pedestal were egg heads would brainstorm from time to time with stakeholders across various sectors of the economy.
He bemoaned the fact that the Nigerian economy has not progressed, saying it was even more surprising that Nigeria has now overtaken India as the nation with the highest number of extremely poor people as a report by Brookings Institution has shown.
He said apart from using the association as a platform to brainstorm on critical national issues, it would also serve as an instrument of ensuring that members and journalists are trained and retrained as a way of empowering them.
“The inauguration of the association today make the coast clear to sensitise stakeholders in different sectors of the economy,” he declared at the event attended by some bigwigs in the business sector.
