The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has fixed April 3 and 4, for this year’s first meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
Spokesman of the apex bank, Mr Isaac Okorafor, confirmed these dates to Reuters on Monday in a phone chat with him.
The first MPC meeting earlier slated for January 2018 was cancelled when the committee could not form a quorum as a result of the refusal of the nation’s upper parliament to confirm nominees of the MPC sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari last year.
However, last week, the Senate agreed to screen the nominees for confirmation and yesterday, the nominees appeared before the lawmakers to begin the process.
While speaking with Reuters on Monday, Mr Okorafor said, “The new dates for the MPC are April 3 and 4.”
Furthermore, he said, “We are hoping that between now and then, the members of the committee would have been confirmed by the Senate.”
The MPC was supposed to meet this week, but Governor of the CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, while addressing newsmen last week in Niger State, hinted that the meeting would be delayed by seven to 10 days.
