The Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State, said it has trained about 1,500 youths in the area of agriculture and plant production in the last 12 months.

Provost of the College, Professor Fatima BJ Sawa, made this known while flagging off the training of 200 youths in the area of orchard and nursery establishment.

He said the programme, which was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, was meant to empower the youths drawn from the 36 states and Abuja.

Prof Sawa further said the beneficiaries were expected to learn how to establish orchard and nursery for fruit and other economic trees, thereby earning a source of income and contributing to the economy.

The Provost urged the beneficiaries to ensure they stay focused during the course of the training.
