Ogun Partners Firms On Agro-Forestry Project

Ogun State government has collaborated with two firms to establish an agro-forestry project in the state.

The partnership was entered into by the state government with Agence Francaise de Development and Larfarge Africa.

The agro-forestry project is expected to be sited at the Imeko-Aworo forest reserves area of Yewa North Local Government area of the state.

Commissioner for Forestry in Ogun State, Mr Kolawole Lawal, who made this known during an assessment tour to the project site, noted that the land restoration project at Imeko-Aworo needed the support of Development Banks and International Agencies to make it a reality.

According to Mr Lawal said the project, initiated by the Mr Ibikunle Amosun’s led administration, was to conserve the forest reserves as well as provide job opportunities for the people of the state.

He said further that the agency was ready to support the state government to actualise the project as soon as feasibility studies were concluded.

On his part, Country Director of Agence Francaise de Development, Mr Olivier Delefosse, expressed the hope that the project would assist in revitalising the degraded land in forest reserves, saying that the project would kick off immediately the feasibility study is completed.
