COVID-19: Death Toll Hits 10 in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) on Saturday night reported 13 new cases of COVID19, bringing total cases in the country to 318, and death toll to double digits of 10.

The agency confirmed that from the fresh cases, 11 were discovered in Lagos State as the state continues to increase by the day.

Other cases were discovered in both Delta and Kano States. With the addition of the two states, the virus has now spread to 19 of the 36 states of the federation.

“As at 9:30pm 11th April there are 318 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 70 have been discharged with 10 deaths

“There are 19 states with confirmed cases in Nigeria,” the NCDC wrote in a statement via Twitter.

Lagos with the new addition to 174 cases followed by the FCT- 56; Osun- 20; Edo- 12; and Oyo – 11.

Other states include – Ogun- seven; Bauchi and Kaduna – six;
Akwa Ibom – five; Katsina – four; Delta – three; Enugu, Ekiti, Rivers, Kwara, and Ondo – two; while Benue, Niger, Anambra, and new addition, Kano have all recorded one case each.

In a statement released before the announcement on Saturday, the Nigerian Presidency had urged Nigerians to comply with the restrictions in order to defeat the coronavirus.

President Muhammadu Buhari also promised more interventions for vulnerable citizens noting that 70,000 tonnes of grain is being released from the National Strategic Grain Reserves for distribution.

The President also noted that, “distribution of small cash payments is also being made, and will continue to be made by the Federal Government, in the States and Local Government Areas.”
