The Naira finished the week stronger by 87 kobo 0.21 per cent against the US Dollar at the Investors and Exporters (I&E) segment of the foreign exchange (forex) market on Friday, August 13.

At the specialised window, the local currency was sold at N410.80/$1 compared to N411.67/$1 it was traded at the previous session.

Even on the trading day, some investors bid the domestic currency at N400.00/$1 at a point, while others pushed for N412.50/$1 before closing at N410.80/$1.

At the close of business, according to data obtained by Business Post from the FMDQ Securities Exchange, transactions worth $109.03 million were carried out at the I&E, 27.8 per cent or $41.96 million lower than the previous day’s turnover of $150.99 million. This supported the strengthening of the Nigerian currency over the American currency yesterday.

But at the black market, the Naira further sustained its stability against the greenback as it traded flat yesterday at N515/$1.

It, however, depreciated against the Pound Sterling at the same market window by N1 to settle at N703/£1 versus the previous rate of N702/£1.

In the same vein, the Naira further depreciated against the Euro at the parallel market by N2 to close at N600/€1 compared with N598/€1 it quoted at the previous session.

At the interbank window, the local currency appreciated against the Dollar on Friday by one kobo as it closed at N410.11/$1 in contrast to the preceding session’s N410.12/$1.

Cryptos Market Valuation Hits $2 trillion

This sent positive signals to the market as Bitcoin (BTC) surged by 8.1 per cent to trade at N24,380,621.77, while Ethereum (ETH) recorded a 7.1 per cent appreciation to sell at N1,668,289.93.
