Early Morning Fire Razes Ogunpa Market in Ibadan

An early morning inferno on Sunday, July 16, 2017, wreaked havoc at a market around Ogunpa/Oke Bola area of Ibadan, Oyo State, leading to loss of properties worth millions of Naira.

It was reported that the unfortunate incident happened at about 3am on Sunday, but was finally brought under control around 10:12am.

Fire fighters had a hectic time controlling the fire, which brought down about 35 shops in the market.

South West Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Yakub Suleiman, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the affected shops belonged to traders selling agricultural products, chemicals, and allied products.

Secretary to the Oyo State Government (SSG), Mr Olalekan Alli, who led other government functionaries to condole with the victims of the fire disaster, promised that government would investigate the matter.

He appealed to the traders to remain calm and further urged them to cooperate with security officials as they commence investigation.
