FG, Nigerian Stockbrokers Deepen Strategic Engagement

The federal government has strengthened its strategic engagement with the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS).

The president of CIS, Mrs Fiona Ahimie, recently led a delegation of the institute to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, in Abuja.

It was gathered that the engagement provided an important platform for the organisation to strengthen its relationship with the federal government and exchange perspectives on issues at the intersection of fiscal policy, investment, capital mobilisation and the development of Nigeria’s financial markets.

As the nation continues to pursue economic reforms aimed at strengthening domestic investment, mobilising long-term capital and creating an environment conducive to sustainable economic growth, the capital market remains an important channel through which savings can be transformed into productive investment. The professional expertise of stockbrokers and the institutions that support the market are therefore integral to this process.

The meeting was also consistent with the strategic direction of the leadership of Mrs Ahimie, which places emphasis on purposeful stakeholder engagement, advocacy, institutional collaboration and positioning the Institute to contribute more meaningfully to national economic conversations.

The visit reinforced the institute’s commitment to working collaboratively with government and other critical stakeholders towards the shared national objective of building a stronger, more efficient, credible and inclusive financial and capital-market ecosystem capable of supporting sustainable economic development.

In attendance were principal officers of CIS, some past presidents and senior representatives of the group, alongside the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Mr Emomotimi Agama.
