In the 2016 financial year, the total revenue of FMDQ OTC Plc dropped to N2.04 billion from N2.07 billion recorded in 2015, Business Post reports.

This represented 1.71 percent decrease in the gross earnings of the company in the period under review.

This information was disclosed at the 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the firm held at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos, on Friday, April 28, 2017.

The decline, according to Managing Director/CEO of FMDQ OTC Securities Exchange, Mr Bola Onadele Koko, was as a result of the challenges in the Nigerian financial markets, particularly, the foreign exchange market.

However, he noted that FMDQ was able to diversify its revenue sources resulting in an increase in the contribution of non-transaction fees to total revenue from 20.56 percent in 2015 to 32.29 percent in 2016, in line with its strategic objectives.

He further stated that in 2017, the OTC Securities Exchange will focus on, amongst others, the diversification of products offerings to include consolidation of OTC FX futures, the introduction of new derivative products such as fixed income, interest rate and currency derivatives, the establishment of a central clearing house to enhance the credit risk management standards and introduction of post trade services to the OTC cash markets.

During the AGM, the shareholders, after receiving the Financial Statements of the firm, reappointed the Auditors, Messrs KPMG Professional Services, to serve as the company’s External Auditors for another year and also authorised the directors to fix the External Auditors’ remuneration.

Presiding over the AGM, former Chairman of FMDQ, Mrs Sarah Alade, emphasised that “the OTC Securities Exchange is in a strong position despite the fact that 2016 was a tough year for all Nigerian businesses, FMDQ included.”

Furthermore, she said the FMDQ was able to sustain its growth by continuing to explore new opportunities to expand and enhance its activities, markets and reach.

This expansion was clearly noticeable in the listings and quotations business which saw a total of 27 debt securities, amounting to N233.98 billion, listed and quoted on the OTC Securities Exchange, and in the number of FMDQ’s members which grew from 75, as at December 31, 2015, to 157, as at December 31, 2016, she said.
