Investors Gain N3.9bn Trading 1.6m Unlisted Stocks in 5 Days

It was a positive trading week for investors at the unlisted securities market in Nigeria last week, having their wealth growing by 0.75 per cent.

This appreciation helped the market capitalisation of the NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange to rise by N3.85 billion at the close of the trading week, the 32nd in the year.

Business Post reports that the total value of the market, which closed in week 31 at N514.80 billion increased to N518.65 billion last week.

This equally improved the unlisted securities index by 0.75 per cent or 5.25 points to 706.07 points as against 700.82 points it finished at the previous week.

Despite the growth in the major market performance indicators, the total number of deals executed in the week decreased week-on-week by 25.5 per cent as only 35 deals were executed compared with 47 deals of the preceding week.

Also, the trading value went down by 67.01 per cent to N23.3 million from N70.6 million, while the trading volume reduced by 17.7 per cent to 1,606,734 units compared to 1,952,219 units in the previous week.

In terms of year-to-date, investors have traded 7,819,576,020 units of securities worth N10.5 billion in 944 deals.

The week closed with First Trust Mortgage Bank Plc ranked atop the five most traded securities by volume as it saw 1.1 million units of its stocks exchanged while FrieslandCampina Wamco Nigeria Plc was the fifth most traded stock by volume in week 32, with 25,897 securities exchanged.

By value, bellwether Niger Delta Exploration and Production (NDEP) Plc ranked top among top five most traded securities by value with N14.3 million and Food Concepts Plc stood as the fifth most traded Security by value for the week with N60,000.

Two of NASD OTC stocks closed the week with a positive movement in the price. FrieslandCampina Wamco Nigeria Plc, which currently holds a market capitalisation of N123.99 billion, closed the week at N127 per share representing a 3.03 per cent or N3.73 increase from the previous closing price of N123.27.

NDEP Plc, currently with a market capitalisation of N49.88 billion, closed the week at N275 per share after rising by 0.43 per cent. In the revious week, it closed at N273.88 per share.

However,   there were no price loser during the week.
