Last week, investors on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) transacted 2.1 billion shares valued at N22.6 billion in 25,187 deals in contrast to the 1.9 billion equities worth N23.6 billion traded in 23,578 deals the previous week.
Access Bank, FBN Holding and Zenith Bank were the most active stocks during the week, trading 686.3 million shares worth N7.6 billion in 4,557 deals to account for 33.21 per cent and 33.57 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
In terms of sectors, the financial services led the activity chart with 1.6 billion shares valued at N13.7 billion traded in 14,521 deals, contributing 76.21 per cent and 60.63 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The consumer goods trailed for trading 178.6 million shares worth N3.6 billion in 4,669 deals, while the conglomerate exchanged 102.7 million units valued at N155.2 million in 599 deals.
Business Post reports that 40 stocks appreciated during the week, lower than 68 equities in the previous week, while 24 shares depreciated, higher six equities in the previous week, with 97 equities closing flat, higher than 94 recorded a week earlier.
Livestock Feeds was the highest price gainer, rising by 30.86 per cent to N1.06 per share, while Transcorp gained 19.72 per cent to settle at 85 kobo per share.
Dangote Sugar appreciated by 19.57 per cent to close at N16.50 per share, CAP increased by 13.02 per cent to N23.00 per share, while LASACO Assurance gained 12.50 per cent to 36 kobo per share.
The heaviest price loser in the week was International Breweries, which went down by 11.80 per cent to N6.50 per share, while Axa Mansard Insurance fell by 9.09 per cent to N2.00 per share.
Linkage Assurance declined by 8.89 per cent to 41 kobo per share, Custodian Investment depreciated by 8.26 per share to N5.55 per share, while NEM Insurance decreased by 8.07 per cent to close at N2.05 per share.
In the week, the All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalisation appreciated by 1.56 per cent and 1.59 per cent respectively to 31,016.17 points and N16.207 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of the main board, insurance and oil/gas which depreciated by 0.62 per cent, 1.32 per cent and 0.77 per cent respectively while the ASeM index closed flat.
