The Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has finally commenced crude oil processing.
This information was confirmed by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the state-owned oil agency, Mr Femi Soneye.
He disclosed that the oil facility owned by the Nigerian government is currently operating at 60 per cent capacity.
The refinery, located at Alesa Eleme in Port Harcourt, has an installed capacity of 150,000 barrels per day but according to the NNPC, is producing about 90,000 barrels per day at the moment, with plans to ramp up production in the coming months..
Business Post eecalls that in 2021, the sum of $1.5 billion was approved for the renovation and modernisation of the refinery.
The first trucks of petroleum products was lifted from the facility today under the supervision of the chief executive of NNPC, Mr Mele Kyari,
