Farmers in Kwara State who have the intention to increase their yields can now heave a sigh of relief.
This is because the state government has promised that it would soon begin to disburse the recently approved N1 billion loan facility to them.
Some days ago, the Kwara State House of Assembly approved the N1 billion loan facility to peasant farmers across the 16 local governments of the state.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Rural Water Support Services, Mr Anu Ibiwoye, said the beneficiaries would soon begin to receive the funding support.
He explained that the loan facility, to be obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under its Anchor Borrowers programme, was made possible because the state government stood as guarantor for the farmers to enable them access the fund.
Mr Ibiwoye stated that the facility will enhance agricultural activities at the local level, and ensure food security, job creation and poverty reduction.
It was gathered that those to enjoy the loan are farmers who grow crops like maize, soya beans, rice and cassava and others.
