An empowerment programme has been organised for farmers in Lagos State as part of efforts to boost their capacity and improve food production in the state.

The programme was put in place by the Lagos State Agricultural Inputs Supply Authority (LAISA) in conjunction with Harvest Field Industries Limited.

A workshop was held for farmers from Badagry District of the state in line with its statutory responsibilities of ensuring adequate training and empowerment.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training held in Badagry, General Manager of LAISA, Mr Bolaji Balogun, stated that the government was committed to supporting farmers to ensure high yield on their farms thereby increasing food supply in the state.

“The farmers will acquire the much-needed knowledge on what and which type of agricultural chemicals to use on their farm produce for preservation but will not be harmful to human consumption, as well as the kind of seedlings that will grow on the farms,” Mr Balogun said.

He explained further that resource persons conducting the training programme were agricultural experts from Harvest Field Industries Limited (manufacturers of agricultural seeds and chemicals) and they would cover topics including seedlings, land fumigation, weeding and land invigoration among others.

Participants commended Lagos State government for the enormous support given to farmers and expressed delight with the exposure to new ideas on how to be successful farmers in Lagos.
