Customers of Meristem Securities Limited have been warned not to honour a mail asking them to subscribe to a bitcoin doubling service.
In a notice sent to its clients over the weekend, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)-approved stockbroker said it has nothing to do with such.
The company said it has from good authority that a mail is being sent to members of the public using one of its business name, Meritrade, to ask them to transfer funds for the cryptocurrency service.
“Our attention has been drawn to a certain Meritrade mail claiming that we offer The Most Trusted Bitcoin Doubler.
“The mail is asking members of the public to transfer money to a bitcoin address and get double their transfer in return after 6 hours.
“Meristem Securities Limited is not associated in any way with any Bitcoin Doubling service. We are not associated with the aforementioned Meritrade email or with the activities described in them. Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard such messages,” the notice from Meristem seen by Business Post read.
The company said, “We hereby alert the public that this publication is fraudulent and should be ignored.”
“Please take note that only information on our website and our social media platforms are authentic and our platforms are accessible at www.meristemng.com or @Meristemng for Instagram and @MeristemNigeria for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube,” it added.
