Naira Falls 0.08% to N1,541.94 Per Dollar at Official Market

The Naira fell against the United States Dollar by 0.08 per cent or N1.16 at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEX) to exchange at N1,541.94/$1 on Monday, September 30 compared with the preceding session’s N1,540.78/$1.

It was the last trading session for the month and third quarter yesterday and the FX turnover was down by 14.3 per cent or $30.45 million to $181.86 million from the $212.31 million recorded last Friday, according to data from the FMDQ Securities Exchange.

However, the domestic currency appreciated against the Pound Sterling in the official market during the trading day by N44.16 to wrap the opening session of the week at N2,143.65/£1, in contrast to the previous session’s N2,187.81/£1 and against the Euro, the Nigerian currency gained N33.11 yesterday to settle at N1,789.71/€1 versus last Friday’s value of N1,822.82/€1.

In the parallel market, the local currency weakened against the Dollar yesterday by N5 to quote at N1,700/$1 compared with the previous trading session’s rate of N1,695/$1.

A look at the cryptocurrency market showed that it was down on Monday, with Ripple (XRP) declining by 3.6 per cent to trade at $0.6216 as the token has been focusing on its stablecoin business.

In the latest development, the company has created an additional 350,000 units of the RLUSD stablecoin into the market through two transactions.

Also, Dogecoin (DOGE) recorded a 3.5 per cent fall to sell at $0.1184, Cardano (ADA) depreciated by 1.8 per cent to close at $0.383, Bitcoin (BTC) went down by 0.8 per cent to trade at $63,925.32, Litecoin (LTC) plunged by 0.4 per cent to finish at $68.01, Solana (SOL) slumped by 0.2 per cent to end at $156.39, and Binance Coin (BNB) shrank by 0.1 per cent to settle at $581.41.

On the flip side, Ethereum (ETH) appreciated during the trading day by 0.4 per cent to sell at $2,642.73, and the US Dollar Tether (USDT) and the US Dollar Coin (USDC) remained unchanged at $1.00 each.
