NASD Gains 0.03% on Renewed Interest in Friesland Shares

The NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange closed for another session in the positive territory following a marginal 0.03 per cent gain on Tuesday, April 26.

This was triggered by the gains recorded by a bellwether stock, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, which added N4.52 or 2.4 per cent to its value to close at N191.01 per share compared with N186.49 per share it ended a day earlier.

However, another bellwether stock, Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc, posted a loss of 82 kobo or 4.8 per cent to close at N16.99 per unit in contrast to N17.81 of the previous session.

But the NASD unlisted securities index (NSI) closed higher yesterday by 0.24 points to 768.76 points from the 768.52 points quoted a day before, while the market capitalisation rose by N310 million to wrap the day at N1.011 trillion from N1.008 trillion.

A look at the activity log indicated that the trading volume jumped yesterday by 14.7 per cent as a total of 559,025 units of shares exchanged hands compared with the 487,235 units of shares transacted on Monday.

In the same vein, the trading value improved during the session by 39.4 per cent to N59.2 million from the previous day’s N42.4 million, while the number of deals depreciated by 12.9 per cent to 27 deals from the 31 deals recorded in the previous session.

When the bourse closed for the day, AG Mortgage Bank Plc was the most traded stock by volume on a year-to-date basis with 2.3 billion units valued at N1.2 billion, CSCS Plc stood in second place with 661.0 million worth N13.9 billion, while NASD Plc was in third place with 43.6 million units valued at N470.1 million.

But CSCS Plc was the most traded stock by value on a year-to-date basis with 661.0 million units transacted for N13.9 billion, AG Mortgage Plc was in second place with 2.3 billion units valued at N1.2 billion, while FrieslandCampina was in third place with the sale of 5.7 million units worth N826.5 million.
