NASD OTC Exchange Closes Flat as Activity Level Wanes

Trading activities on the floor of the NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange closed flat on Thursday, February 5, with the key market indicators remaining at the previous levels.

As a result of this, the NASD Unlisted Securities Index (NSI) stayed 697.86 points, while the market capitalisation remained unchanged at N501.73 billion at the close of business today.

At the two previous sessions, the volume of shares exchanged by market participants increased, but at Thursday’s session, the trading volume went down by 97 percent or 3,340,681 units to 110,980 units from 3,451,661 units recorded at the midweek trading day.

Similarly, the value of shares transacted by investors today reduced by 97 percent or N926.4 million as only securities valued at N30.9 million exchanged hands during the session compared with N957.3 million traded on Wednesday.

In addition, the total number of deals executed by traders went down in the day by 36 percent or four deals as only seven deals were recorded today in contrast to 11 deals of the previous session, while the unlisted securities market closed without any price gainer or loser.

Business Post reports that ARM Life Plc maintained its position as the most traded stock by volume (year-to-date) with 29 million units of its shares transacted for N18.3 million, while Niger Delta Exploration and Production (NDEP) Plc followed after trading 3.7 million units worth N1.2 billion, with Central Securities Clearing Systems (CSCS) Plc exchanging 3.5 million units of shares valued at N41.3 million.

In terms of value, NDEP Plc remained the most active (year-to-date) with 3.7 million units worth N1.2 billion, while Friesland CampinaWamco Nigeria Plc trailed with 523,519 units worth N66.9 million, with CSCS occupying the third position for selling 3.5 million units of its shares worth N41.3 million.
