NASD Posts 106.6% Weekly Jump in Trading Value

Securities worth N48.1 million were traded at the NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange last week (Week 33).

This indicated a 106.6 per cent increase in the total value of stocks transacted by investors at the unlisted securities market during the week compared to N23.3 million recorded at the previous week.

This happened as the OTC bourse printed a 1.05 per cent weekly rise following the addition of 7.39 points to the NASD Unlisted Securities Index (NSI), which ended at 713.46 points as against 706.07 points it finished a week earlier.

Equally, it boosted the market capitalisation by N5.43 billion to N524.08 billion from N518.65 billion it finished the earlier week.

However, the volume of transactions during the week reduced by 49.4 per cent to 813,582 units from 1,606,734 units of week 32, while the number of deals recorded closed flat 35 deals.

In terms of highest trade by volume during the week, securities depository company, Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) led the log of top five most traded securities with 491,429 units, while FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc was the fifth most traded stock by volume with 21,389 units.

On the other hand, the Niger Delta Exploration and Production (NDEP) Plc closed the week topping the chart of the five most traded securities by value with N25.3 million, while Firsttrust Mortgage Bank Plc stood as the fifth most traded security by value for the week with N53,259.

The NASD OTC Exchange continued its positive year-to-date (YTD) as the market recorded an increase in performance. NSI YTD return rose by 2.28 per cent. Total volume traded YTD stood at 7,820,389,602 units realised in a total of 979 deals and total value traded was N10.5 billion.

Two of NASD OTC stocks closed the week with a positive movement in the price. FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, which currently has a market capitalisation of N124.04 billion, appreciated by 3.03 per cent to close at N127.05 per share compared with the previous rate of N127 per share.

NDEP Plc, which currently has a market capitalisation of N55.3 billion, improved by 10.8 per cent to close the week at N275 per share versus N304.67 per share.
