By Aduragbemi Omiyale

An online grocery store, Easyshop Easycook Services, has closed shop after 18 years of operations in the country.

The firm arguably pioneered online grocery delivery service, but due to an unfavourable business environment, the organisation has shut down its operations.

Easyshop Easycook, in a statement, thanked its loyal customers and partners for their enduring support, cherishing the memories created over the years.

It also expressed its gratitude to its stakeholders, including the government and private sector partners, for their unwavering support throughout its journey.

In 2005, Ms Saudat Salami established the company with the vision to make customers order fruits, vegetables and others from their conform and have their orders delivered to them.

However, like some businesses operating in Nigeria, a few government policies and others have forced them to pack up and go.

Some weeks ago, a multinational firm, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), announced that it would leave the country because of the foreign exchange (FX) crisis and others.

For 18 years of its existence, Easyshop Easycook has been at the forefront of innovation and has had a profound impact on the lives of many Nigerians, especially fostering work-life balance for women.

The firm has also played a pivotal role in the agriculture value chain, championing the integration of technology into food systems and highlighting the critical importance of value and supply chains in the success of the grocery sector.
