The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has attrivbuted he current scarcity in premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, in some parts of the country to “logistics issues.”

In a statement signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr Olufemi Soneye, on Thursday night, the NNPC, however, said the issue has been resolved.

The agency assured consumers that it was not planning to increase the pump price of the product, saying supply should improve soon.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) wishes to clarify that the tightness in the supply of Premium Motor Spirit currently being experienced in some areas across the country is as a result of logistics issues and that they have been resolved.

“It also wishes to reiterate that the prices of petroleum products are not changing.

“It urges Nigerians to avoid panic buying as there is a sufficiency of products in the country,” the state-owned oil firm stated.

Business Post reports that in the past few days, there had been queues at petrol stations in Abuja, Lagos, and other cities across the country. It was first rumoured that the government was planning to increase the price of the product.
