Shell Moves to Boost Power Supply In Nigeria

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) has sought the collaboration of inventors to create smart solutions that will generate more and cleaner energy across Nigeria and the world.

The oil firm lamented that the current energy was not enough to satisfy the growing energy needs in Nigeria.

It was explained that this made the company to launch its makethefuture campaign.

According to SNEPCO Human Resources Director, Mr Obinna Anaba, who spoke at the first anniversary of Africa’s first kinetic solar powered pitch in Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, the problem of electricity in Africa requires collaboration.

“We believe that working together will transform lives and bring cleaner energy to communities. For #makethefuture, we collaborate with inventors, local communities, engaged citizens and global celebrities to transform lives by putting bright energy ideas into action.”

He said further that, “Working together, we are turning gravity into light, coffee into energy, cooking oil into fuel, roadside turbulence into electricity, and footsteps and roofs into power sources.

“An example of our last initiative is the Lagos Kinetic Pitch with floodlights powered by energy from players’ footsteps on Pavegen tiles laid under the Astroturf pitch.”
