President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Presidential Economic Coordination Council (PECC) to be headed by him, with Vice President Kashim Shettima as the deputy.

A statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja disclosed that Mr Tinubu set up the group in a strategic move to​ bolster the nation’s economic governance frameworks and ensure robust and coordinated economic planning and implementation.

It was disclosed that the PECC will comprise the Senate President, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Minister of Labour and Employment, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, the Minister of Power, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, the Minister of State for Gas, the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Works, and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.

According to the statement, the PECC will also comprise key members of the organized private sector for a period not exceeding one year, subject to the President’s directive.

These persons include Mr Aliko Dangote, Mr Tony Elumelu, Mr Abdulsamad Rabiu, Ms Amina Maina, Mr Begun Ajayi-Kadir, Mrs Funke Okpeke, Mr Doyin Salami, Mr Patrick Okigbo, Mr Kola Adesina, Mr Segun Agbaje, Mr Chidi Ajaere, Mr Abdulkadir Aliu, and Mr Rasheed Sarumi.
