The 2023 supplementary budget of N2.17 trillion has been signed into law by President Bola Tinubu despite controversies from various quarters.

Mr Tinubu appended his signature to the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, turning it into an act on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Recall that a few days ago, the President asked the National Assembly to pass the extra budget for this fiscal year because of the need to complete some government transactions, including the payment of N5 billion for the presidential yacht allegedly ordered by the immediate past administration of Mr Muhammadu Buhari.

He presented the supplementary bill to the Senate and the House of Representatives after it was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its meeting last Monday.

He explained that the supplementary budget was necessary for additional palliative measures, including for Nigerian workers.

Last Thursday, the Senate and the House of Representatives passed it, though the lower chamber of the parliament rejected the N5 billion presidential yacht and passed it to the N5 billion earmarked for student loans.
