Adebule Tasks Teachers on Extra-Curricular Activities

By Dipo Olowookere

Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Idiat Adebule, has urged Principals and Head Teachers in private and public schools to encourage their students to participate actively in extracurricular activities so as to develop their hidden potentials as they pass through the school system.

The Deputy Governor gave the advice today while inspecting a callisthenic display by some school students in preparation for the Lagos@50 celebrations at the Wahab Folawiyo High School, Osborne Road, Ikoyi.

Mrs Adebule stated that students’ participation in extracurricular activities would give them the advantage of early exposure to various vocations and sports alongside their educational development, adding that students who are not academically inclined could be assisted to develop their skills in sports, craft or other vocations to help them realize their life potentials.

While urging students to be hard working and show commitment to their education, Mrs Adebule explained that the state government has committed huge resources in the year 2017 budget to their educational development.

She disclosed that the State’s Ministry of Education has designed a new curriculum that incorporates extracurricular activities like sports, participating in outdoor activities, informal practices and physical fitness and urged them to make use of various facilities provided in schools to develop themselves.

Mrs Adebule emphasised that the ongoing construction of model colleges across the State is also a demonstration of the commitment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration to ensure that the educational system is upgraded to world standard.
