Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has expressed his desire to prioritise education in the state so as to match the fast pace of development around the world.

Mr Bello said he would reposition the sector and use the sector to drive the socio-economic renaissance in the confluence state.

He said the need to reawaken education from its present stupor was the impetus that drove his placement of education as the number one priority of the state in the New Direction Blueprint to fashion out a society that can drive economic growth.

The Governor, speaking via a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ms Petra Akinti Onyegbule, remarked that, “Our government has seen the need to prioritize education.

“But in doing that, we are not oblivious of the need to restructure our education within the precinct of the educational policy of the nation to ensure we develop technical education to empower our youth to graduate into jobs of their own and spark a technological revolution in the nation.

“Kogi is a peculiar State with rich mineral and natural resources ready to be tapped. To get the best out of our resources, technical education must take the centre-stage.”

“This administration will work assiduously and relentlessly to raise the standards of our technical education while keeping an eye on the general educational need of the people of the State.

“Our youth remain our best resource, and our administration will work hard to invest in them to ensure their energies are directed to the right priorities for the development of our State,” Mr Bello assured.

The Governor noted that his administration was already assessing the infrastructural deficiencies in the tertiary institutions across the State, with a view to improving their standards.

He urged all stakeholders in the education sector to key into his administration’s education vision, pledging to make Kogi a leading state in education before the end of his tenure.
