The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Kayode Fayemi, has approved the appointment of Professor Edward Olanipekun as the new Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti.
The appointment, according to a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, is to take “immediate effect.”
Professor Olanipekun, a Professor of Chemistry, was the former Dean at the School of Post Graduate Studies of the University.
He is a native of Ado Ekiti metropolis and formerly served in his capacity as the Chairman, Ilorin Zone of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Mr Olanipekun will be replacing Professor Olubunmi Ajayi, who has been in acting capacity as Vice Chancellor since last December following the sack of Professor Sam Oye Bandele by Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Mr Bandele was sacked following the recommendation of a visitation panel led by former Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Professor Bamitale Omole, sent by Governor Fayemi on a fact-finding mission to the institution.
Before Mr Bandele was appointed on December 3, 2015 by then Governor Ayodele Fayose, the position of the principal academic and administrative officer of the University was held by Professor Dipo Aina, who led the university for four years.
