Lagos Orders Public, Private School Learners to Obtain LASRRA Number

All public and private schools in Lagos State have been directed to demand the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) number from learners before enrolment.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, said this requirement is effective from the 2026/2027 academic session, which begins on Monday, September 14, 2026.

It was disclosed that this policy was designed to develop a reliable and verifiable database of learners to improve planning, monitoring and service delivery across the education sector.

The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) will implement it as part of an effort to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in Lagos.

According to the Commissioner, capturing learners on the LASRRA database would also improve record-keeping in schools, strengthen learner identification and verification, facilitate tracking and provide government agencies with credible data for evidence-based decision-making.

Under the new arrangement, schools have been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission and school records and to sensitise parents and guardians on the requirement.

Schools are also expected to advise parents whose children or wards are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process ahead of the new academic session.

The government, however, directed schools to ensure that learners’ personal information is handled confidentially and securely in accordance with applicable data-protection standards.

Also speaking, the Director-General of OEQA, Mr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said his office, in collaboration with LASRRA and other relevant agencies, will develop modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners, while providing sensitisation, registration, and verification support to schools, parents, guardians, and learners.

He stated further that compliance with the directive would form part of OEQA monitoring and quality-assurance activities across public and private schools in the state, urging parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that their children, wards and learners are registered with LASRRA before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session, stressing that the requirement is mandatory.
