Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, has disclosed that Queen’s College, Yaba, Lagos will remain shut to students until the school’s water was decontaminated.
However, Mr Ehanire, during an inspection tour of the school’s water and other facilities, said only the Junior Secondary School students would be allowed into the school for their ongoing examinations, but would have to leave immediately after the exams each day.
He stated that gaps in the school water supply source, which led to the unfortunate death of three students, were being fixed to avert such issue in the future.
The Minister was accompanied to Queen’s College by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris and others.
At least two students of the school died from contaminated water, while others were treated for abdominal pain, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Both the federal and state governments have been working tirelessly to ensure such tragic incident does not occur again.
They have also taken measures to make water supply to the school become safe for consumption.
