5 Things to Know Before Completing an Online Transaction

online transaction

By Adeniyi Ogunfowoke

In the past in Nigeria, prospective buyers had to visit stores physically to purchase their groceries or wares.

Like earlier said, this is in the past and is no longer the case today. Shoppers can simply log into an online website like Jumia and order whatever they want. It will be delivered within a two or three day period. This is arguably one reason why online shopping is trending and attractive since it was pioneered by Jumia. Despite this, there are certain baggage that cycle with online shopping which you must know. Therefore, after you have identified what you want and are ready to click the buy button, Jumia Travel, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal rolls out five things to do before you complete an online transaction or purchase.

Look for online coupons before checking out

If you are looking for a way to cut cost while engaging in an online transaction, the sure way is to search for online coupons. Some retailers have a space to enter promo or discount codes which they may have advertised and you may have missed. Hence, before you conclude your transaction or before you pay for that product or service, check out for any coupons.

Be aware of the return policy

Buyers are unaware of the return policies of some online retailers. For many online platforms, they have a 14-day return policy while for others, it may be different. In addition, you may return the bought item and not get your full payment back. The return policy can be a deciding factor when comparing the same item from two or more other retailers.

Pay with cards that offer rewards

Some retailers offer discounts and other juicy rewards when you use a particular payment card on their website. Also look out for these offers before you finish your online purchase.

Use Invisible Hand extension for your browser

This is an extension that runs in the background while you are navigating an online retailer. It helps users search for the best price online and allows you to know when it finds the best price for that same item.

Safety of the website

Popular online platforms can easily be cloned so as to defraud unsuspecting buyers. Therefore, these online commerce hubs have unique features that guarantee your safety while shopping. So, do look for these inconspicuous features before you buy whatever you want.

The gathering, which was held in Victoria Island, Lagos, formed part of training on Environmental Justice: Reducing Ecological and Social Inequalities through Effective and Participatory Land Governance. Essentially, in my private study/preparation for the programme, the need to domesticate the subject became paramount to me. To achieve this objective; the following questions came flooding; what is environmental justice?

National Contradictions Tinubu Must Resolve in 2024

By Michael Owhoko, PhD Any Nigerian with a rational and open mind knows that the complexity of governance in Nigeria today is rooted in the country’s political system, which by any stretch of imagination and logic, is unsuitable for a heterogenous society like Nigeria with over 250 ethnic groups that is characterized by incompatible cultures, varied history, background and interests. These ethnic groups were hitherto independent nations that ceded their sovereignty to the Nigerian state under federalism, a political system that took cognizance of their peculiarities and agreed upon by the country’s founding fathers. But ever since this system was

Coker-Odusote: 100 Days at the Helm of NIMC

By Walter Duru, Ph.D It was Albert Einstein who once said that “setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.” That sentiment expressed by Einstein is the primary essence behind the theory of transformational leadership, which requires passion, charisma, and the ability to motivate others. Transformational leaders are usually very authentic, emotionally intelligent, great listeners, results-focused, visionary, and self-aware. In just 100 days at the helm of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote has ushered in a new era of transformational leadership, leaving an indelible mark on the organization. Her eventual confirmation

Why Sanofi is Not Exiting Nigeria, Changing its Global Business Model

By Sunkanmi Vaughan The reason is unusual and too technical for most people to understand, including most journalists who cover business and political news. As one with an understanding of that highly technical professional sector, I will break down the technicality in the Sanofi strategy for easy understanding and explain why the misunderstanding or misreporting occurred. In the business world covered by economy/business-reporting journalists, everything boils down to profit. It can be a real struggle indeed for the journalists to understand the priority of Sanofi. If you add the unpatriotic politics of disinformation, then you have a bigger problem to

The Uphill Battle for IGR Collection

By FBNQuest Research Our look today at state governments’ internally generated revenue (IGR) shows a decline in the aggregate collection from N801 billion to N756 billion in 2015. Collection as a proportion of total revenue improved but perhaps the more important trend is that a minority of states is moving away from the rest. Both Ogun and Enugu joined Lagos in achieving a ratio for IGR/total revenue above 50 percent in 2015. One other state (Rivers) managed 40 percent, three 30 percent (Kano, Oyo and Abia) and five 20 percent. We are working with the data provided in the CBN

What is Good for the Goose May Not be Good for the Gander

By Christie Obiaruko Ndukwe Governor Nyesom Wike sacked his Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tamuno Igbiks, in the middle of a summit on the hazardous soot in Rivers State. It’s not a problem since he has the power to hire and fire. But the reason he gave for the sack is what I find amusing. Dr Tamuno Igbiks had allegedly written a letter asking Julius Berger to stop work all over their construction sites in the state. According to Governor Wike, the young man exhibited undue power not available to him as a Commissioner, and worse still, he failed to inform

Purchase prices rose at the fastest pace in almost two years amid exchange rate weakness and higher costs for fuel and materials. According to the latest Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) from Stanbic IBTC, business conditions remained under pressure, scoring 48.0 points last month compared with the 49.1 points it garnered in October 2023. Readings above 50.0 signal an improvement in business conditions, while readings below 50.0 show deterioration.

Partnerships for Progress: Collaboration Between Banks and Fintechs is the Future of Banking in Africa

By Ike.S Anison Historically, the formal banking sector’s penetration in Africa has been relatively low. And, while there has been significant improvement in this area in recent years, there is still a significant portion of the population on the continent who are unbanked or lack access to financial services. According to the World Bank, approximately 350 million adults in sub-Saharan Africa are still unbanked, accounting for 17% of the 2 billion global unbanked population. This has largely been due to a struggle to tap into the continent’s low-income segment, the widest proportion of the population. Consumers within this market feel
